Wellington, New Zealand is a great vacation destination. Not only is it located in one of the most beautiful and friendly countries in the world, but it also offers some of the most exciting and entertaining tourist attractions in the world as well as one of the larger cities in NZ. If you want this year’s vacation to be something special, then you may want to plan a vacation that includes stops in: Rotoua, New Zealand, New Zealand Wellington, Lake Taupo, Auckland, Christchurch, Queenstown and/or Wanganui.
One of the first sites in Wellington, New Zealand that you will want to visit is the Te Papa Museum. This New Zealand museum specializes in local anthropological and natural history, including special displays and demonstrations on the Maori. It is the home to over 20 exhibits and halls, and it is a great place to start your New Zealand Vacation. It is open every day from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and admission is free of charge.
We spend over 5 hours there. They had the Tā Moko exhibit which is the Maori’s form of tattooing. Each design represents the history of mother and father’s tribe and other important events in the person’s lives. Tribes from all over New Zealand were present and they did the body and face markings right in front of us.
If you can arrange to be at the museum when they have special events, it is well worth the time.
Another museum found in Wellington, New Zealand is the Petone Settlers Museum. This museum focuses on the history of the Hutt Valley. It is open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on the weekends and holidays between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Admission to this museum is also free, however, donations are appreciated.
If you are interested in wildlife then you will want to visit the Wellington Zoo. This is a “close encounter” attraction that requires you to book your tour. The price for admission is going to depend on the size of your group and the types of activities and animal encounters you want to have.
If you are traveling with your family then there are several Wellington attractions and activities that you will want to plan. For game themed days you can plan to visit the Paintball Adventure Challenge. If you are looking for an educational detour then you will want to plan a day at the Island Bay Marine Education Centre. Other family friendly activities in Wellington, New Zealand include: the Capital E National Arts Festival, the Pixie Toy Hire, Steam Incorporated and the Blueberry Farm.
For visitors who are in desperate need of an adventure then Wellington will not let you down. Here you can book both above ground and underwater adventures.
